About the Job
Global leader in the steel manufacturing and distribution industry in need of a Quality Technician. The Quality Technician will be responsible for calibrating monitoring, reporting and maintaining calibration status on test and inspection equipment.
WHAT DOES THIS JOB ENTAIL?
•Record calibration test data, applying statistical quality control procedures as applicable.
•Prepares graphs/charts of calibration status and enters data into computer for analysis and tracking
•Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
•Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve req’d accuracy.
•Reviews calibration status to initiate calibrations within scheduled frequency.
•Assists in the calibration of furnaces, documents results and tracks status.
•Verifies straightness on critical jobs and maintains straightness gages.
•Performs vendor claim investigations and expediting of evaluation of samples.
•Supports inspection activities by providing necessary calibrated inspection tools.
•Investigates customer disputes with respect to straightness and dimensions.
•Assists in the laboratory for evaluation of steel reject samples and steel claims.
•Serves as backup for metallurgical technician.

IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
•Must have Bachelor degree in Engineering and related field.
•Must have a minimum of 5 years in quality control.
•Must have or complete ASNT level II qualification testing
•Knowledge of PPAP and Part Submission
•Experience and or familiarity with capacity studies and Minitab
•Must be proficient with Microsoft, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
•Must have statistical quality control procedures experience to include recording calibration test data
•Must have experience evaluating data and reporting to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards
•Must have auditing experience to perform random dock audits and random job audits within departments
•Must have experience with vendor claim investigations
•Must have experience with preparation of control plans
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, client, customers, etc.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
