The Obstetrical Staff Nurse is a professional care provider who specifically manages the nursing care of the obstetrical, gynecological, neonatal patient taking into account the individual patient’s special physical or age-related needs.
Work is performed in accordance with established hospital standards, nursing department/unit structure, process and outcome standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and consistent with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the hospital and nursing department.
Unit Specific: Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other disciplines in maintaining standards for professional nursing and hospital practice in the clinical setting, taking into account the individual patient’s special physical or age-related needs.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Employee is trained and prepared to care for the age-specific group served on their assigned unit.
Preferred: Completion of Childbirth Educator Program, lactation consultant/advocate training; completion of any specialty education programs that would enrich knowledge base of specialty.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/ REGISTRATION: Possess current NYS license for Registered Professional Nurse; AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
EXPERIENCE: Must possess 6 months to 1 year of post-graduation nursing experience.
Preferred: One or more years experience in labor and delivery, nursery, or post-partum nursing.
