The Senior Quality Engineer will be responsible for working with manufacturing, engineering and purchasing in developing world-class production processes & quality assurance systems. The Quality Engineer will also develop and implement standards for assuring consistently high quality responsiveness and service levels from suppliers. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, maintain, and improve world-class production processes and quality assurance systems: Investigates major quality and customer related problems, and participates with operations and customers to resolve issues. Proactively supports operations in order to exceed customer expectations. Participates in reviews of engineering designs and production processes in terms of quality requirements. Suggests modifications in design or production processes to achieve optimum quality and reliability in customer requirements and production costs. Participates in Customer Contract Reviews and responsible for flowdown of resulting customer quality requirements. Develops and maintains quality control inspection and test procedures for a variety of parts and equipment. Maintains standards for calibrating inspection instruments and ensures that all instruments are calibrated and documented at prescribed intervals. Plans, schedules and directs the inspection of materials, parts and apparatus in accordance with quality control procedures and ensures that detailed inspection records are maintained and that rejected items are properly identified. Performs internal audits and follow up activities in order to maintain our ISO-9001 Quality Management System certification. Responsible for implementing and maintaining methods of collecting and presenting quality metrics. Participates in contributing in the Continuous Improvement processes for productivity and material savings. Participates in developing and maintaining high quality Supplier base: Develop, implement, and maintain standards for assuring high levels of quality responsiveness and service from suppliers. Partner with Supply Chain on supplier qualification, defects reduction, and corrective/preventive actions. Develop and maintain supplier quality reports, audits, certification, and ratings. Respond to supplier defects with pro-active partnership approaches. Review and audit suppliers’ quality control systems and processes. Manage supplier yield data and continuous improvement progress.
Critical Success Factors: Technical Skills: Requires a B.S. Degree in engineering, statistics, or quality assurance with 5 years experience in quality control engineering, testing or inspection or equivalent training. Electro/mechanical background is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge in Applied Industrial Statistics, Six Sigma and/or Shainin Problem Solving techniques is a plus. ASQ Certification and Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Shainin Master Certification are pluses. Working knowledge of metrology and GDT is a plus. Familiarization with ANCI/ASQC Z1.4, MIL-STD-105, J-STD-001D, FAI, FOD, PFMEA, and/or MRB is a plus. Work Experiences: Demonstrated experiences working for suppliers to US military or federal agencies (e.g.,DoD, DoE, Navy) and/or to prime contractors or National laboratories. Experience with ITAR and/or GIDEP is a plus. Communication Skills: Effectively communicates with and engages all levels of the organization verbally and in writing; translates technical decisions/strategies into business terms and implications; produces clear, understandable documentation geared for all audiences. Management of Resources: Allocates time and resources efficiently, focusing on ever-shifting priorities; continually seeks way to improve individual/team efficiency. Change Management: Exhibits an assertive personality with a strong bias for action with a results-orientation; tackles tough problems with firm deadlines.
