Essential Functions:

Educational support:

  • Assist youth who have been diagnosed with physical, mental or emotional disabilities through individual or small group instruction using specialized techniques
  • Responsible for the development and support of allIndividual Education Plan’s (IEP’s) including: 1) reviewing incoming IEP’s from previous schools, 2) keeping, organizing, and disseminating special education records following MAYS policies, 3) identifying youth who are in need of special education services, 4) initiating and communication of IEP process to the school psychologist and the Director of Education, 5) maintaining a summary of adaptations for regular education teachers, 6) supporting regular education teachers with special education youth, 7) assuring all adaptations are being followed in the classroom, 8) coordinating tutoring sessions, 9) coordinating required services, and 10) coordinating any required testing, i.e. WRAT testing or other specified assessment tool
  • Complete all required education paperwork
  • Facilitate meetings with parents, youth and staff to review education testing, education plan or any federally required paperwork  to support youth academically
  • Monitor youth progression in accordance with Individual Education Plans
  • Prepare youth reports and summaries

Youth Care support:

  • Orient incoming youth to the rules, regulations and schedules for the classroom
  • Ensure that appropriate behavior is observed during care
  • Utilize Safe CrisisManagement (SCM) as appropriate
  • Provide First Aid care
  • Contact Medical Department as required


  • Serve as substitute teachers as needed by the department
  • Understand and abide by all company policies and procedures
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for educational requirements
  • Attend staff and professional meetings and conferences as directed by management
  • Serve as a role model to staff and youth
  • Assist in providing case management for each youth (progress reports, developing corrective action plans, facilitate meetings with others in the education department relating to the educational needs of the youth)
  • Follow and support the Private Academic School Licensure narrative on the conduct of the special education services provided in school





  • Bachelor’s Degree in education
  • Valid Special Education Teacher’s license/certification grades 7-12




  • ACT 33 & 34 clearances
  • First Aid/CPR training
  • Fingerprinting clearance
  • Safe Crisis Managementtraining
