JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

The Activity Assistant is expected to dress and act professionally and assist with the preparation and implementation of programs in the Health Center and the Residential Building.
This position is under the direction of the Resident Activity Director and the Therapeutic Activity Coordinator. Ultimate direction is provided by Administrator/Executive Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
1.During emergencies or natural disasters, employee may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Administrator/Executive Director, for the duration of the disaster.
2.Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
3.Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
- Leads or assists with planned activities following specific instructions as to goal procedures and outcome.
5.Invites and assists residents to and from activity areas for participation.
6.Performs one‑to‑one in room and bed‑bound programming.
7.Assists with record keeping documentation and filing.
8.Monitors amount of supplies and their storage.
9.Sets up and dismantles activity areas before and after programs.
10.Makes room visits as assigned.
11.Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Therapeutic Activity Coordinator and Department Director.
12.Attends inservice training and continual educational courses, as assigned.
13.Arrange for or personally set up activity area for scheduled program in cooperation with Food and Beverage Department, Maintenance Department and Housekeeping Department.
14.Maintain storage of all decorations, making supplies available as needed for programs, holidays and parties.
15.Assist with decorating of activity area as requested by Department Director.
16.Maintain and prepare supplies for scheduled activities ‑ name tags, bridge tallies, game night, birthday party, etc.
17.Assist in communicating to residents about program in formation via delivery of notices, newsletter, posters, and telephone messages.
18.Use office equipment to prepare or copy notices of communication for residents.
- Prepare Activity Book based on monthly calendar for sign‑up by residents.

Job Title: Activity Assistant
Education:Must have the ability to read, write and speak English effectively, using proper speech and grammar. Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English. Must have an overall knowledge of the elderly and have sensitivity to their interests and an understanding of their physical limitations, mental abilities and an appreciation for their psychosocial well-being. Patience and perseverance are virtues to be possessed. Having a cheerful attitude and remaining flexible during the day's stresses is very important.
Experience:Prefer experience in Health Center activities or related field. The abilities to act with diplomacy, intuition, humor, assurance and decisiveness. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interact with the public in a professional manner.
Complexity:A wide variety of duties and responsibilities involving the ability to provide detailed information and handle a multiplicity of tasks. Must work well in a fast paced environment. Requires the use of judgment to follow instructions regarding standard operating procedures and to give instruction on same.

Sensory Ability to maintain a cooperative and courteous attitude
Demands:despite simultaneous demands. Must be able to handle a multiplicity of tasks, moving swiftly from one to another. Must be able to function efficiently despite distractions and interruptions and be able to remain calm in an emergency. Requires manual coordination to operate business equipment. Deadlines and a number of simultaneous demands can produce stressful situations on occasion.
Physical Demands:Position requires moderate physical effort approximately 50% of the time, moderate bending and stooping, standing 50%, ability to push residents in wheelchair, ability to lift 35 pounds. Must be able to perform Gross and fine motor skills.
WorkingSurroundings are comfortable and well lighted. Exposed to noise from
Conditions:all areas and at times a computer screen. Works in a retirement facility environment with regular exposure to chronically ill and frail elderly.

Equipment:Will be exposed to equipment such as copy machine, poster machine, microphone system, projector and screen, VCR, and other similar electric equipment.
