General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is a leader in the shipbuilding industry. We are looking for candidates interested in learning how to build the most complex ships in the world. We offer an apprenticeship program where you spend time learning a trade, working towards an academic degree, and earning a competitive salary.
The program is approximately 4 years in duration providing both academic and on-the-job training (OJT) that, upon completion, provides coursework leading to an Associate of Science degree from the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), a Certificate of Apprenticeship from the State of Maine and a diploma signifying graduation from the BIW Apprenticeship Program. Satisfactory completion of all course requirements, including homework assignments, is required to complete the program. Text books, on-going support and coaching are provided to enable apprentices to be successful.
Our current apprenticeship offerings are in the following trades:
Maintenance (Electrician and HVAC)
To be considered for BIW’s apprenticeship program, applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire (June 18, 2018)
- Have a high school education or equivalent (GED)
- Demonstrate college readiness in reading, writing, and mathematics. College readiness is measured through the ACCUPLACER test administered through the Southern Maine Community College’s Midcoast Campus located in Brunswick, ME.
Note: Only candidates that meet the minimum requirements will receive communication with further instructions regarding taking the ACCUPLACER test and submitting scores. For more information on the test please visit https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/ Applicants will be required to take the test through SMCC’s Midcoast Campus located in Brunswick, ME.
While relevant work experience is preferred, the applicant must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job (e.g. able to use hand tools, pneumatic tools and able to wear a respirator).
